International patent applications filed at WIPO during 2020 achieve 275.00 and show an increase of 4% in respect of 2019 despite the pandemic emergency. In first position China (68.720 patent applications; +16,1% in respect of the last year), followed by the United States (59.230 applications, +3%), Japan (50.520 applications, -4,1%), Republic of Korea (20,060 applications, +5.2%) and Germany (18,643 applications, -3.7%). International trademark applications slightly decreased by 0.6% to 63.800 in 2020, while international registration of industrial design fell by 15% in 2020 to 18,580 designs.
